BIOGRAPHY

 

Assoc. Professor Dr Ngiap Chuan Tan is the Director of Research in SHP and is the sub-editor for the SingHealth journal: Proceedings of the Singapore Healthcare. He serves as a reviewer for various local and international medical journals and grant applications. 

 

Assoc. Professor Dr Tan's research focuses on the self-management of non-communicable diseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension and dyslipidaemia, dementia and asthma, including the use of digital health, point-of-care devices and mobile applications to support patients in self-care. He has published over 80 articles in local and international medical journals such as SMJ, ERJ, npj PCRM, Lancet Respiratory Medicine, Medicine, JMIR, JAMDA and JAMA. 

Assoc. Professor Tan is a facilitator for the in-house research training and runs basic and qualitative research workshop regularly for the multidisciplinary staff in SHP and FM ACP. He coaches medical students from the three local medical schools, novice primary care researchers and trainees in the College of Family Physicians of Singapore Fellowship programme. 

 

Assoc. Professor Tan has secured research grants from public and private funding agencies such as Singapore National Medical Research Council, Abbott Laboratories and has recently been awarded the AI-SG Grant which aims to leverage on artificial intelligence to develop evidence-based person-centered primary care services.
